Master Internships

The students in master must realize two internships :

  • the first, the clinical intership, on a subject directly linked to clinical studies
  • the second, the final internship in a research laboratory (R&D internship) or in a company (Industrial internship)

Internship in a clinical service : 8 weeks

Stage Hospitalier

The place and importance of clinical internship in the second year are essential in training.

The aim of this internship is to familiarize students with the hospital to give them an experience of work realities, constraints and relationships within a hospital. It allows students to understand the operation and requirements of a hospital, and refine skills acquired during academic training, to interact with doctors and engineers of the hospital sector.

During this internship, the student will conduct a specific work of analysis and synthesis.

The student mission reflects current concerns of the service which welcomes him:

  • technical study for evaluating of a practice of a diagnosis or a treatment
  • evaluation or project of performance improvement for an appliance or a biomedical technology (purchase prediction of new equipment, ongoing studies of technology transfer …).

Sometimes, the subject of the mission may be proposed by the student (if, for example, he has identified a fault on a device), in agreement with the department manager.

This is therefore not an observation internship. The student must perform a specific job analysis, reflection and creativity with, if possible, a concrete result. He identifies the specific needs of the service, he follows the evolution and scalability of products, working with professionals to scrutinize tenders ...

Final internship : 20 weeks at least

In R&D lab :

Stage de fin d'études

The period of this internship is at least 5 months. It is realized in a laboratory and it must be for the students the opportunity to work for solving a problem of biomedical engineering using technical and scientific knowledge acquired during the academic training. It may also enable them to complete their knowledge and expertise.

It takes place in a research laboratory, a department of health or a company of the biomedical sector, in France or abroad.

Typically, an internship corresponds to a topic of research and development if it is realized in a company or to a subject in one of the themes of the research laboratory. The studied problem should be in relation to the biomedical field.

In a company :

Stage Industriel

At the end of schooling, this internship allows students to perform an activity of junior engineer or researcher in a manufacturing company or in a research lab related to the biomedical sector.

Its aim is to temporarily immerse the student in the professional workplace in order to give him experience on the realities of working in the company or a lab. It also allows to complete the human, scientific and technical training.

This essential experience must meet key objectives which the school can not provide :

  • discover an real system of design, production or research
  • apply knowledge in solving practical problems in complying with constraints perfectly defined and implementing the tools of project management
  • discover and validate methods of work
  • master and integrate modes of group work and communication tools.

So this activity of junior engineer or researcher effectively contributes to the formation of the student by performing an essential complement to academic training. Each student must be fully aware of the issues that are associated with the success of such an experiment.

The activity of the trainee in the company will consist mainly to the completion of a particular task as similar as possible to that which would be entrusted to a junior engineer or researcher.

It is desirable that the scientific and technical knowledge base required to perform the work placement are mostly those that are transmitted through the teachings.

The internship is administratively validated by a training agreement and can be realized in France or abroad.
